In years past and even still current, the maintenance of hydraulic shovels
continues to be a critical necessity to the success of mining companies
all over the world.
The efficiency, effectiveness and most importantly safety of handling large
and heavy components of a hydraulic shovel, demands several materials
handling tools to perform the various tasks.
Not only are these various required tools costly, but they also can be difficult
to manage from a maintenance perspective and very time consuming.
In 2007 Leavitt Machinery was challenged by an existing customer to
find a way to more safely and effectively handle large hydraulic cylinders
on their mining shovels, as this is the area of concern that was most
recognized as a Safety and Efficiency issue in the shovel maintenance
world.
Working with our largest Rough Terrain manufacturer Manitou, we
were able to create a machine and attachment combination that not
only provided the ability to more safely handle cylinders, this tool also
performed the function of cylinder change outs in a fraction of the time.
In addition we were also able to use this exposure to the mining industry
and shovel maintenance specifically, to design and produce additional
tooling focused on improving materials processes and safety in the
application.
The machine used as the "heart" of the operation is a model known as a
MHT10210. Quick disconnect attachments that have been produced for
this unique "pick n' carry" chassis design thus far are:
- Cylinder Handler
- Forks and Carriage with Fork Positioning
- Jib Booms (varying sizes and capacities)
- Pin Hammer
- Bucket
- Man Basket
- Pipe Grapple
- Tire Manipulator
- Winch
